he word ‘museum’ often conjures up

images of hushed halls and dusty

exhibits. But the music museums of the world are changing that perception. These spaces act as vital repositories, preserving instruments, recordings, and the stories of the artists who have shaped our soundtracks, say musicians. Today, on International Museum Day, we speak to musicians about their favourite music museums around the world and how these spaces help us gain a deeper appreciation for music’s rich tapestry.

It makes me wish we had more music museums in India. We tend to overlook the contributions of musicians, especially in pop music.

Visiting the home of a musical genius was a surreal feeling: Aneesh Vidyashankar During a world tour in 2014, | visited Beethoven's house in Bonn, Germany. Standing in the birthplace of such a genius was surreall. It felt like a connection across time. The trip also offered another unforgettable encounter. At the Museum of Fine Arts in Washington D.C., | had the rare privilege of seeing a Antonio Stradivari violin - one of the world's most expensive instruments. As a violinist, it gave me goosebumps, to say the least.
